Platinum selling alternative rock band Sponge from Detroit MI. will perform at The WaterTower in Oaks on Friday June 20th with special guests, Phoenixville's very own Big Green Limousine. This is an All Ages to enter, 21+ with valid ID to drink event. Tickets are only $17 in advance and $20 at day of show. Doors at 7 PM, show 8 PM and will finish by 11 PM. A special Happy Hour from 7 - 9 PM sponsored by Sly Fox Beer.

Sponge has proven to be one of the Motor City's heaviest hitters after gaining
international notoriety with their debut album "Rotting Piñata” (Sony). Emerging
from Detroit with hits like "Plowed" and "Molly (16 Candles)," Sponge received
massive airplay on radio stations from coast to coast and were in heavy rotation on
MTV. Both “Plowed” and “Molly” hit #5 on Billboard’s Modern Rock Charts,
catapulting “Rotting Piñata” to Gold, and ultimately Platinum status.
Sponge's follow up album, the critically lauded “Wax Ecstatic” (Columbia) scored
additional top ten Billboard hits including "Wax Ecstatic" and "Have You Seen
Mary?" The album garnered a "Song Of The Year" nod from Rolling Stone Magazine for title track “Wax Ecstatic” in 1997. The album also yielded two additional top 10 hit singles and featured a guest vocal appearance from Richard Butler of the Psychedelic Furs on the song “I Am Anastasia.”
The band’s music was also featured in popular movies “The Craft”,
“Chasing Amy”,"Point Break", “Mall Rats”, "Marvin's Room" and “Empire Records” Sponge’s star continued to rise with network appearances on The Late Show with David Letterman, The Jon Stewart Show, the Conan O’Brien Show as well as becoming a staple on MTV.
Sponge’s subsequent releases “New Pop Sunday,” “For All The Drugs in The
World,” “The Man,” “Galore Galore,” and “Destroy the Boy ” showcased the band’s
swirling sonic attack rooted in 70's glam, and of course, the Motor City influences
of The Stooges, The MC5, and Motown—but still sounding distinctly like no one
else.
“Plowed” continues to be the band’s signature rock track, having been spotlighted
on Guitar Hero’s “Warriors of Rock – 90’s Rock Track Pack” – and on the Paper
Jamz Guitar Series 2, in addition to the soundtrack for the Gerard Butler surf movie
“Chasing Mavericks.”
Since then, Sponge continues to release new music and keeps a near-constant tour schedule to the pleasure of their legion of loyal followers. Though continually led by Vinnie Dombroski, Sponge’s lead singer and chief songwriter, the band has seen a few line-up changes over the course of its 30+ year career.
Sponge currently features: Andy Patalan (guitar, vocals) and his brother Tim Patalan (bass). The Patalan brothers were a natural addition to the band, having previously engineered and produced the first three Sponge records at their studio, The Loft, in Saline, Michigan. The Brothers Patalan are joined by Kyle Neely (guitar) and recent addition, former Taproot drummer Dave Coughlin.
Sponge's discography includes nine studio albums, four live albums, and seven charting singles; 4 of which have made Billboard Magazines top 10. The band has also been featured on several compilations and movie soundtracks over their decades long career.
Sponge is busy supporting their latest releases "1994" and "Lavatorium" and show no signs of stopping for the foreseeable future headlining dates all over the US in 2025 and recording a live album in April 2025 at the famed Whiskey-A-Go-Go in Los Angeles. The band with head out in September for a full US tour supporting Everclear and Local H.
Proudly representing the city of Detroit, Sponge takes their well earned place as a part of Rock-N-Roll’s lengthy musical history.
